Throughout June, we want to talk about what’s going on outside of London for LGBTQ+ people in the UK, and ask, do all queer roads actually lead to London?
There is a traditional narrative around the lives of LGBTQ+ people and it goes something like this; at some point in your teens, you pack up your case, board the coach at a grimy city centre bus station and head to London, where the streets are paved with rainbows.
Throughout June, we will be exploring what life is like for LGBTQ+ people outside of our capital, asking questions such as; Is there too much focus on London? What’s the scene like in the regions? Does your experience of being LGBTQ+ differ according to where your roots are, and how does this affect the experiences of migrant LGBTQ+ people?
As a collective, we have writers and curators from all over the UK (and the world) from Belfast to Bellingham. We hope to discuss, discover and debate what is happening outside of London in the UK.
